Bicyclist injured in hit-and-run, Avon man faces multiple charges

AVON — A bicyclist was injured in a hit-and-run incident in Avon on Oct. 4, leading to the arrest of a local man on multiple charges, including reckless endangerment and evading responsibility, police said.

At around 9:16 p.m., Avon Police Department officers responded to a report of debris on the roadway near Arch Road and Security Drive.

Upon arrival, they discovered a hit-and-run accident involving a bicyclist, who was initially missing from the scene.

The department later received a second call reporting a pedestrian struck by a vehicle at 73 Harris Road.

The victim was identified as the missing bicyclist from the earlier incident.

Through witness accounts and police investigation, authorities located and apprehended the suspect, Alex Joel Rivera.

Rivera is charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, evading responsibility causing serious physical injury, operating a motor vehicle without a license, and two counts of risk of injury to a child.

The North Central Municipal Accident Reconstruction team is conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.

The juvenile bicyclist is currently receiving treatment at Hartford Hospital.
