Rhode Island fugitives arrested on multiple charges, including assault and child endangerment

PROVIDENCE — Members of the Rhode Island Violent Fugitive Task Force, in coordination with local police, have apprehended two men wanted on numerous charges including aggravated assault and child endangerment.

On Oct. 3, Juan E. Colon, 40, was arrested at his North Providence residence on charges stemming from multiple jurisdictions.

Colon was wanted on a Fugitive from Justice Warrant from Massachusetts for Aggravated Assault with a Gun, as well as an Affidavit and Arrest Warrant for Domestic Disorderly from the East Providence Police Department.

Additionally, he had a bench warrant for failing to appear for a pre-trial conference on an initial charge of Domestic Assault.

Colon was processed at the Lincoln Barracks before being handed over to the East Providence Police Department.

In a separate operation on the same day, Zildjian J. Baptista, 34, was taken into custody at his Newport home by the task force and Middletown Police.

Baptista faced multiple charges including Felony Assault, Unlawful Breaking and Entering, Carrying a Dangerous Weapon while Committing a Crime of Violence, violations concerning a License or Permit for Carrying a Pistol, Child Endangerment, and an additional Felony Assault charge.

Baptista’s arrest was executed without incident and he was subsequently turned over to the Middletown Police Department.
