ENOSBURGH — Vermont State Police are actively investigating a suspicious death that occurred early Friday morning, Oct. 4.

Detectives from the Criminal Division along with the Crime Scene Search Team have been dispatched to collect evidence, interview potential witnesses, and are in the process of securing a search warrant for the property where the incident took place.

Jordan Lawyer, a 29-year-old Enosburgh resident, has been detained in relation to the ongoing investigation.

Although no charges have been filed at this time, Lawyer was known to both the deceased male victim and a woman who has been hospitalized.

Further details regarding their identities will be disclosed as relatives are notified and the investigation continues.

Lawyer was taken into custody around 11:20 a.m. in downtown Enosburgh following a “be on the lookout” alert.

He had been observed fleeing the scene of an altercation at approximately 8:45 a.m. in a black Jeep Cherokee.

An extensive search involving the Vermont State Police, the Warden Service Division of the Vermont Department of Fish & Wildlife, and the U.S.

Border Patrol ensued.

The Jeep was eventually spotted by a state trooper on Vermont Route 105, west of Enosburgh.

Lawyer attempted to evade law enforcement, leading to a brief chase eastbound along Route 105.

The pursuit was called off as the Jeep entered Enosburgh’s central area.

The incident came to a head when Lawyer’s Jeep collided with a vehicle operated by a game warden.

To safely apprehend Lawyer, troopers used a less-than-lethal impact round.

He is currently receiving medical attention for his injuries at Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.

No other injuries related to the events of the day have been reported.

The Vermont State Police is working in conjunction with the Franklin County State’s Attorney’s Office on this case.
