WORCESTER — A man was pronounced dead at a local hospital after Worcester Police officers responded to a call about a possible gunshot victim on Heroult Rd on Oct. 2 at about 2:20 p.m.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered a male victim with serious gunshot wounds.
He received immediate medical assistance and was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
A Massachusetts State Trooper encountered a man behaving suspiciously a short time after the shooting.
When confronted, the man fired a weapon but fled when the trooper commanded him to drop the firearm.
At approximately 3:24 p.m., police were dispatched to I-190 northbound, near Heroult Rd, following reports of an armed individual obstructing traffic and aiming a gun at drivers.
A pursuit ensued when Worcester Police officers and state troopers arrived on the scene.
During the chase, the suspect attempted to carjack several motorists on the highway.
A Worcester Police officer and a Massachusetts State Trooper fired their weapons in response to the threat.
The suspect then turned his gun on himself and inflicted a fatal gunshot wound.
The man was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities believe the individual involved in the I-190 incident is the same suspect from the Heroult Rd shooting.
Officials have assured that there is no immediate danger to the public.
The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by the Worcester Police and State Police Detectives under the Worcester District Attorney’s Office.
