Two-car collision in Keene results in serious injuries, vehicle fire

KEENE — A serious motor vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Route 9 and Route 10 early Thursday morning, resulting in one vehicle catching fire and serious injuries.

Keene Police Department responded to the scene at approximately 2 a.m. after reports of a two-car crash.

Emergency units arriving at the location found a Subaru Legacy engulfed in flames following a collision with a tractor-trailer.

The Subaru, driven by 36-year-old Margaret Batchelder of Plymouth, was traveling south on Route 10 when it failed to stop at the intersection’s stop sign, continuing directly into the path of the eastbound tractor-trailer on Route 9.

The tractor-trailer was operated by 37-year-old Adam Engelhart of Troy.

Batchelder was rescued from the vicinity of the burning vehicle by Keene Police officers.

She was then transported by the Keene Fire Department ambulance to Cheshire Medical Center with serious injuries.

The fire was successfully extinguished by the fire department.

The collision is under active investigation by the Keene Police Collision Analysis Team.

They were assisted on scene by Keene Fire Department, New Hampshire State Police, and the NH Department of Transportation.
