DORCHESTER — Boston Police arrested a 25-year-old man early Thursday morning for multiple firearm and motor vehicle violations following a suspect stop in Dorchester.

Officers assigned to District B-3 were patrolling near the intersection of Washington St. and Columbia Rd. at about 1:20 a.m. when they spotted a moped scooter without a license plate speeding down Washington St. towards Erie St. The moped carried two individuals who were not wearing helmets and had their faces covered with ski masks.

As the officers changed direction to follow the moped, it turned onto Erie St. and then onto the wrong way of Greenwood St. The officers stopped at Greenwood St. and Ellington St., near a driveway the moped had entered.

Upon exiting their cruiser to approach the moped, the operator, identified as Kyvon Ross of Dorchester, accelerated toward one of the officers.

The officer dodged the moped, and Ross lost control, causing both occupants to fall.

While detaining Ross, officers discovered a firearm in his waistband.

Despite Ross’s violent resistance, backup officers arrived, and he was eventually taken into custody.

The firearm recovered was a Glock 22 with a flashlight attachment, loaded with thirteen rounds of .40 caliber ammunition in the magazine and one round in the chamber.

The serial number on the firearm was defaced.

Two officers sustained minor injuries during the incident, with one treated at a local hospital.

Ross is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges including unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, and resisting arrest, among other offenses.
