BREWER — Following a multi-agency meeting regarding the Orrington fire, the Brewer Police Department has issued an update on the situation, warning residents of the potential hazards as winds shift northward toward Brewer.

As of the meeting on Oct. 12 at 12:55 p.m., authorities have stated that the fire is likely to be an extended incident, spanning multiple days.

The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) officials have arrived on the scene, and air quality monitoring equipment is being set up, with results expected by tomorrow.

Residents are urged to stay indoors and keep air as clean as possible, refraining from using air conditioners and shutting off air handling systems.

Those with respiratory conditions should follow their medical management plans, and seek medical attention if breathing difficulties arise.

The Brewer Police Department, led by Public Safety Director Jason Moffit, promises to keep the community informed as new information becomes available.
