BOSTON — Officers from the Boston Police Department apprehended a 39-year-old man on charges of attempted armed robbery Tuesday evening after he allegedly threatened people with a knife in the downtown area.

At about 7:10 p.m., police were called to 107 South Street where they were informed by dispatchers of a suspect brandishing a knife.

The suspect, identified as Cary Grant of Boston, reportedly demanded money from a passerby and brandished a knife when the individual refused.

Responding officers from District A-1 witnessed Grant walking nearby with a knife in hand.

They ordered him to drop the weapon, which he did before being handcuffed and taken into custody.

While at the scene, officers encountered two additional victims who described similar confrontations with Grant.

Grant faces charges of two counts of attempted armed robbery with a knife, one count of attempted unarmed robbery, and disorderly conduct.

He is scheduled for arraignment at Boston Municipal Court.
