Waterbury antique store theft suspect apprehended

WATERBURY — A grand larceny incident at a local antique store led to the arrest of a Colchester man Monday afternoon, authorities said.

Vermont State Police Berlin barracks responded to a report of theft at Sir Richards Antiques and Fine Arts Center located at 3487 Waterbury Stowe Rd. around 3:51 p.m. A painting, valued at $2,495, was reported stolen from the business.

Employees provided law enforcement with surveillance footage and images of the suspect and a vehicle believed to be involved in the incident.

The vehicle was located near the store at about 5:31 p.m.

Perry Mason, 56, was identified as the driver and the suspect in the theft.

Mason was taken into custody without incident and surrendered the stolen painting to the State Police.

Mason was processed at VSP Berlin and issued a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Washington Circuit on Nov. 14.
