Man cited for negligent operation after speeding on I-89, Williston

WILLISTON — A Vermont man is facing charges for negligent operation after police caught him driving at a high speed on Interstate 89 early Monday morning.

At approximately 12:30 a.m., Vermont State Police clocked a vehicle traveling north near mile marker 81.2 at 104 miles per hour, far surpassing the speed limit of 65 mph.

Radar confirmed the excessive speed.

The driver, identified as Ryan Benware, 39, of Colchester, was stopped by the authorities.

Benware had a passenger in the vehicle, which added to the risk posed by his speeding.

Benware was issued a citation to appear at the Chittenden County Superior Court on charges of Negligent Operation.

Additionally, he received a Vermont Civil Violation Complaint for Title 23 Section 1004 – Interstate Speed, which includes a penalty of 2 points on his driver’s license and a waiver amount of $586.
