Search intensifies for missing Presque Isle man with dementia

1 min read

PRESQUE ISLE — Multiple agencies, including the Presque Isle Police Department, intensified their search today for 82-year-old Lyman Botting, who has been missing since yesterday morning.

Authorities are calling on the public to keep clear of the search area to allow a tracking K-9 unit and wardens to operate effectively.

Botting, who suffers from dementia, was last seen at approximately 9 a.m. Sept. 27 at the intersection of Houlton and Spragueville Rd.

Witnesses described him as appearing confused and disoriented, possibly believing he was living in a past decade.

He was wearing black and gray checkered pajama pants, a blue t-shirt with insignia that may resemble stripes, but crucially, his usual boots and jacket were left behind.

Botting is very familiar with the wooded areas around where he was last seen, which has become a focal point for the search.

Despite his condition, authorities do not believe Botting left the area in a vehicle.

Originally from Mt. Chase, it is possible that Botting might attempt to return to his hometown, though this has not been confirmed.

The Presque Isle Police Department urges anyone who may have seen Botting or has information about his whereabouts to contact them immediately at 207-764-4476.

They emphasize that information should be relayed via phone call and not through messaging on platforms like Facebook.
