NORTH HAVEN — A quick response to a 911 call by a child reporting a home invasion led to the arrest of a 44-year-old man on Thursday evening.
According to North Haven Police Department, officers were dispatched to Avalon Haven at approximately 6 p.m. after receiving information about a possible home invasion.
The child caller described an unknown male inside the house, armed with a knife.
Upon arrival, law enforcement learned that an adult male resident had confronted the intruder, who was dressed in dark clothing and a ski mask, with an axe.
The suspect fled from the scene when he heard approaching police sirens.
Police canvassing the area spotted Demitrias Terrell emerging from a wooded area near the home.
Terrell was detained and found to be in possession of a black ski mask, a large knife, and hand wraps typically used in boxing.
Terrell was arrested and has been charged with home invasion, possession of a dangerous weapon, threatening in the first degree, three counts of risk of injury to a minor, and criminal attempt to commit robbery in the first degree.
He is currently held on a $500,000 bond.
