BELLINGHAM — A 64-year-old New Hampshire man was arrested Friday after his erratic driving led to a motor vehicle crash on Mechanic Street.

Bellingham Police Department received a 911 call at about 4:24 p.m. reporting a Chevrolet Silverado unable to maintain lanes or appropriate speeds on South Main Street.

As officers headed to the scene, the vehicle was involved in a collision with another occupied vehicle.

On arrival, the operator of the Silverado refused to roll down his window or exit the vehicle.

Police observed signs of impairment and, when the man attempted to flee, they were forced to break the window to gain access.

He continued to resist but was eventually taken into custody.

Bellingham Fire Personnel treated the man before transporting him to a hospital.

The driver is likely to face charges including operating to endanger, operating under the influence of drugs, resisting arrest, and possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.

Further charges may be added as the investigation proceeds.

No additional details have been released at this time.
