SHELTON — The Shelton Police Department has announced the arrest of 21-year-old Jgai Purcell in connection with a sexual assault that occurred last month at the Riverwalk on Canal Street.

According to Detective Richard Bango, the incident took place on Aug. 8 when a 47-year-old woman was walking her dog.

Purcell allegedly approached the woman, expressed a desire to get to know her, and then restrained her when she attempted to leave.

The police report states that during the confrontation, Purcell grabbed the woman’s breasts and buttocks.

The victim managed to break free and take a photograph of the assailant, which she provided to the police.

This photograph was later released to the public, aiding detectives in identifying Purcell as the suspect.

After being shown a photographic lineup, the woman positively identified Purcell as the man who assaulted her.

He has been charged with fourth-degree sexual assault and second-degree unlawful restraint, and is currently being held on a $50,000 bond.

The Shelton Police Department expressed gratitude to their Detective Bureau for their dedication and efforts in solving the case.
