TEMPLE — A historic building in Temple was struck by a hit-and-run driver on Sept. 25, causing significant damage, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy Austin Couture responded to a report of a vehicle collision at the corner of Day Mountain Road and Intervale Road, where the vehicle had evidently failed to navigate the corner properly and crashed into the Historical Society Building.

The section impacted was the old Post Office, a structure dating back to 1811.

Authorities believe the vehicle involved was a pickup truck, Jeep, or similar-sized vehicle, based on the height of the damage observed on the building.

The driver responsible for the crash left the scene without reporting the incident to the Sheriff’s Office.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is now seeking assistance from the public.

They urge anyone with information about the incident or the vehicle involved to contact the Franklin County Communications Center at 207-778-6140.
