PROVIDENCE — Attorney General Peter F. Neronha announced Wednesday that a former pediatrician has been indicted on charges of sexually assaulting a nursing home resident at an East Providence facility earlier this year.

Anthony Alario, 73, of Pawtucket, faces one count of first-degree sexual assault and one count of second-degree sexual assault following a grand jury indictment on Sept. 24.

The charges stem from an incident on May 20 at Tockwotton Assisted Living Facility, where Alario allegedly assaulted an elderly female patient in the memory care unit.

According to the indictment, Alario, who is not professionally affiliated with Tockwotton, was seen by a facility employee committing the assault.

The employee immediately reported the incident, prompting an investigation.

In the aftermath of the allegations and subsequent investigation, Alario voluntarily surrendered his medical license.

The Providence County Grand Jury returned the indictment against Alario, designated as P1-2024-2955A.

Alario is set to be arraigned in Providence County Superior Court on Oct. 2.
