NORTH HAVEN — Police responded swiftly to a potential threat at North Haven Middle School on Monday after an individual contacted a veteran’s service crisis line stating intent to carry out a shooting at the school.
The report, which came just before 2 p.m., prompted an immediate dispatch of all available law enforcement to the middle and high school campus.
A shelter-in-place order was issued for students and staff on the premises.
Some students had already begun to leave the school prior to the police arrival and the shelter-in-place directive.
Authorities quickly moved to secure the scene, escorting remaining students onto buses for safe departure or to designated areas for parent pickup.
The North Haven Police Department later stated that the threat appeared similar to others recently made to schools throughout Connecticut and across the nation.
These patterns suggested the threat was not credible.
Despite the preliminary assessment, the police emphasized that they treat all threats with utmost seriousness until they can confirm they are not credible.
The department expressed gratitude for the support from the Board of Education and school supernumerary officers during the incident.
The scare caused understandable stress among parents, students, and staff, but the situation was handled without harm.
Police continue to investigate the matter in conjunction with other jurisdictions experiencing similar threats.
