BOSTON — Boston Police Department officers arrested a man and recovered two firearms Tuesday night after responding to a Shot Spotter activation in Dorchester.
At about 8:57 p.m., officers assigned to District C-11 (Dorchester) arrested Joshua Martins, 26, of Boston, for firearm-related offenses during a subject stop while investigating a Shot Spotter activation on Mount Ida Rd. and a separate 911 call about shots fired at 68 Draper St.
Following the Shot Spotter alert, officers patrolled the area searching for potential victims, witnesses, and suspects.
They received descriptions of suspects from radio operations and spotted four males matching those descriptions walking on Percival St. towards Fox St. As officers approached the group, Martins fled but was apprehended at the intersection of Juliette St. and Fox St.
While handcuffed, Martins attempted to reach his waistband, prompting officers to intervene.
An investigation led to the discovery of a firearm in Martins’ pants, identified as a Glock 19X 9×19 with one live round in the chamber and a 24-round magazine containing 21 rounds of ammunition.
Simultaneously, other officers investigating the 68 Draper St. and Mount Ida Rd. area, with the assistance of Boston Police Canine Jax, found a second firearm in an alley on Ridgewood St. This weapon, a black and silver semi-automatic “ghost gun” without a serial number, had a ten-round magazine with eight rounds of 9mm ammunition and was equipped with a light/laser attachment.
Martins faces charges including Carrying a Firearm Without a License, Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm.
He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
