WORCESTER — After a high-speed pursuit that endangered officers and civilians, Worcester Police Department officials reported the arrest of two males on multiple gun-related charges late Monday night.
The incident began around 9:57 p.m. on Sept. 23, when a Worcester officer initiated a traffic stop near Quinsigamond Avenue.
The officer discovered that the vehicle’s registration was revoked due to insurance issues.
The driver, identified as 22-year-old Pedro Echevarria Junior, and passenger, 20-year-old Isaiah Small, were both later arrested.
Upon being asked to exit the vehicle, Echevarria accelerated, injuring an officer by running over his foot.
The officer was subsequently hospitalized for evaluation.
Continuing at high speed, Echevarria put other drivers and pedestrians at risk before stopping on Russell Street near Elm Park.
Both Echevarria and Small were apprehended without further incident.
A firearm was found in the vehicle behind the driver’s seat, leading the Crime Scene Unit to secure the scene and the weapon.
Neither Echevarria nor Small held a valid Massachusetts License to Carry firearms.
Echevarria faces charges including possession of a large capacity firearm, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
Additional charges include operating a vehicle with a revoked registration and failure to stop for police.
Small is charged with similar firearm offenses, including possession of a large capacity firearm and carrying a loaded firearm without a license.
The Worcester Police Department’s investigation into the incident is ongoing.
