St. Albans police arrest two in early morning burglary

ST. ALBANS — Two men were apprehended by St. Albans Police Department officers during a proactive foot patrol in the downtown area after a burglary was detected in progress at the From Scratch store on South Main Street, authorities said.

The incident occurred on Sept. 22 at around 4:31 a.m. when officers, on a routine patrol, noticed suspicious activity inside the local business.

Upon further investigation, police confirmed a burglary was underway and took two individuals into custody at the scene.

Nathan L. Robtoy, 36, of 100 Lake Street, and Tony Brace, 44, who is currently unhoused, were arrested following a comprehensive investigation.

Both men face charges including Burglary, Possession of Burglary Tools, Unlawful Mischief, and Resisting Arrest.

A Vermont Superior Court judicial officer set bail for Robtoy at $7,500 and for Brace at $2,500, additionally imposing conditions of release at the behest of the Franklin County State’s Attorney’s Office.

The accused were lodged at the Northwest State Correctional Facility in St. Albans due to inability to post bail.
