KINGSTON — A police pursuit early Monday ended when a vehicle crashed into the Kingston Fire Station, resulting in a temporary power outage and a fire at the facility.
The incident began shortly after 1 a.m. when Kingston Police Department received a call about three individuals wearing masks and allegedly armed with knives and firearms, threatening the caller at their home.
The suspects reportedly left to assault another individual on Nottingham Drive.
Upon arrival at the second victim’s residence, police located a vehicle occupied by three individuals who appeared to be changing clothes.
The suspects fled as officers attempted to stop the vehicle, leading to a two-minute chase covering roughly two miles.
The suspects’ vehicle left the roadway on Route 27 and struck Station 1 of the Kingston Fire Department at 105 Pembroke Street.
The driver fled on foot but was apprehended after a short chase.
The two other occupants were also detained.
The collision caused severe damage to the fire station’s generator and parts of the building, leading to a power loss and a fire that required mutual aid response and off-duty personnel recall.
The driver, found to be unlicensed and in a stolen vehicle, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
All suspects are juveniles and their identities have not been released.
Charges are expected to be filed as the investigation continues.
The fire station has resumed operational status for emergency services, though administrative functions may be affected for days.
