Keene police arrest two in connection with nonfatal shooting

KEENE — Two men have been arrested in Massachusetts on warrants issued by the Keene Police Department in connection with a shooting that left one man injured, authorities said.

The incident occurred on Sept. 22, when police were called to 112 Gilsum St. at approximately 4:23 p.m. for a report of a man with a gunshot wound.

The victim, who has not been identified, was transported by private vehicle to Cheshire Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Following an investigation, Keene Police identified and obtained warrants for 31-year-old Joel Cruz of Union City, N.J., and 29-year-old Luis Nunez Jr. of Jersey City, N.J.

Both suspects are currently detained in Massachusetts, awaiting extradition to New Hampshire.

Cruz is charged with first-degree assault, a class A felony, and reckless conduct, a class B felony.

Nunez faces charges of accomplice liability for first-degree assault and accomplice liability for reckless conduct.

The two men will appear in 8th Circuit Court-Keene after they are extradited to New Hampshire.

The Keene Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the Walpole, N.H. Police, Brattleboro, Vt. Police, and the Massachusetts State Police.

The investigation is ongoing.
