SPRINGFIELD — A Springfield man was arrested Thursday after police recognized him from an active in-state arrest warrant.

Joseph Higginbotham was taken into custody around 2:44 p.m. after a brief chase on foot by Springfield Police Department officers.

The incident began when Officer Guzzo and Cpl. Perkins, on patrol in a marked cruiser, spotted Higginbotham sitting beside the Springfield Coop on Valley Street.

Knowing Higginbotham had an active warrant, the officers confirmed it with dispatch and approached him.

Higginbotham attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended.

Following his arrest, Higginbotham was processed at the Springfield Police Department and issued a criminal citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Criminal Division, Windsor Unit.

He was then transported to Southern State Correctional Facility with bail set at $200.00 cash or surety.
