NAUGATUCK — After investigating social media messages threatening the safety of a local high school, Naugatuck Police Department has deemed the threats to be non-credible.
The announcement came in a release issued at 6 p.m. on Sept. 19, reassuring the community that despite the lack of credibility in the threats, officers will maintain a presence at area schools.
The department emphasized that the safety of students and staff is a primary concern and that the additional security measures are purely precautionary.
Authorities also warned that students who contribute to the spread of fear by resharing or reposting the threatening messages, instead of reporting them to the proper channels, could face enforcement action.
The department encourages anyone with information about such threats to come forward and assist in maintaining a secure environment for education.
