MERIDEN — Two Meriden juveniles were arrested Thursday following investigations into potential threats against local schools posted on social media, authorities said.
The Meriden Police Department responded to reports from school officials about threats made on Facebook and Snapchat.
These incidents are part of a broader pattern of similar threats circulating on social media platforms throughout Connecticut and other states over the past few weeks.
One of the investigations led to the arrest of two juveniles, while the other resulted in the identification of another Meriden juvenile.
The latter case remains active and is being handled by the department’s detective division.
In a swift response, the Meriden Police coordinated with School Superintendent Mark Benigni, Ed.D., keeping him informed throughout the process.
Benigni subsequently notified parents and staff of all Meriden public schools about the situation.
In his message, Benigni expressed regret for the late notice and emphasized the seriousness with which these online threats are treated.
He assured families and staff that the police had made arrests and that school resource officers or patrol officers would be present at the middle schools as a precaution.
The Meriden Police Department has reiterated its commitment to thoroughly investigating any threats of school violence and taking appropriate actions to ensure the safety of students and staff.
