BROCKTON — During a routine traffic stop, Brockton Police Department officers confiscated a loaded 9mm handgun and multiple rounds of ammunition from a 17-year-old, averting a possible crime.

The incident, which occurred on Saturday, led to the discovery of the handgun, which had been reported stolen from Killeen, Texas.

The juvenile, whose identity has not been disclosed due to age, was found in possession of a 17-round magazine, 15 9mm rounds of ammo, and one 40-caliber bullet.

Authorities stated that the seizure of the firearm and ammunition likely prevented a potential tragedy, highlighting the importance of traffic stops in law enforcement’s efforts to maintain public safety.

The teen is now facing a series of charges, including unlawful carry of a loaded firearm, illegal possession of a large-capacity feeding device, unlawful possession of ammunition, disturbing the peace, resisting arrest, and receiving stolen property valued under $1200.

The department continues to investigate the matter and has not released further details about the teen or the circumstances leading to the traffic stop.
