TROY — A local man faces charges after allegedly making life-threatening statements over the phone that prompted a school lockdown, authorities said this afternoon.

Vermont State Police say they arrested Michael Liberta, 45, of Troy, on Sept. 12 after multiple community members reported receiving disturbing calls.

According to police, the calls, made around 10 a.m., targeted Troy School staff and other residents.

The superintendent, citing safety concerns, decided to place the school on lockdown.

Officers maintained a presence on campus throughout the day.

Liberta is scheduled to appear in Orleans Superior Court on Oct. 15 to answer to charges of disturbing the peace by electronic communication.
