Springfield police arrest shooting suspect, seize loaded firearm

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield Police Officers and Detectives arrested 31-year-old Tyler Harris after responding to a shooting incident on Sunday, Sept. 15.

At around 10:30 p.m., officers headed to the 0-100 block of Darwell Street following a ShotSpotter activation.

En route, they received reports of a man, later identified as Harris, firing shots from a back porch at individuals.

Upon arrival, officers learned Harris had moved to a third-floor stairway inside a building, where they heard three more gunshots.

Gaining entry to the building, police found Harris with a gun.

They cautiously approached and Harris ultimately followed their commands.

Officers seized the loaded large capacity firearm and arrested Harris.

Detectives also found shell casings and projectiles at the scene.

Harris, from Springfield, faces charges including four counts of discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, and possession of a large capacity firearm.
