Providence siblings arrested for obstruction, drug possession during traffic stop

PROVIDENCE — Two siblings were arrested early Thursday morning after a traffic stop led to charges including drug possession and obstructing a police officer.

Ashanti S. Young, 23, of Providence, was taken into custody at 12:16 a.m. on multiple charges, according to the Rhode Island State Police.

Young faces counts of possessing a Schedule I-V controlled substance, specifically less than 10 grams of ecstasy, obstructing a police officer, and driving after suspension of a license, marking the fourth or subsequent offense.

Amil A. Young, 24, also of Providence, was arrested on a single charge of obstructing a police officer during the same incident.

The arrests occurred on Exchange Street and were the result of a motor vehicle stop conducted by state troopers.

Both suspects were transported to Lincoln Woods Barracks, where they were processed.

A Justice of the Peace arraigned them, and they were released with a notice to appear in Sixth Division District Court.
