NEWPORT –– Newport Town School (NTS) successfully hosted the first in a series of Multigenerational Meals last week. This innovative program aims to bring together students and area elders for a free shared meal and engaging activities, fostering connections across generations.
The event featured a delicious meal prepared by Colleen Percy and Michelle Robert, followed by a time
of interaction where students and guests played cards and shared their interests and knowledge. The
positive atmosphere and meaningful exchanges between the generations were evident, creating a sense of community and mutual understanding.
The next meal in this series will take place on September 25. Elders from Newport Center and the
surrounding communities are warmly invited to join one or all of the scheduled events. No registration is
required, allowing for easy participation in this enriching experience.
The Newport Town School Multigenerational Meals are made possible through the support of various
organizations, including The North Country Supervisory Union Community Schools Program, funded
through the Act 67 Community Schools pilot grant program administered by the Vermont Agency of
Education.
Other partners include The University of Vermont’s Catamount Community Schools Collaborative, The University of Vermont’s Leahy Institute for Rural Partnerships, Northeast Kingdom Community Action, Newport Town School and School Board, and dedicated Newport Center community volunteers
