BENNINGTON — A local man was taken into custody Wednesday on charges of cocaine trafficking, following an investigation by the Vermont Drug Task Force and Bennington County Sheriff’s Department, with assistance from the Bennington Police Department.
Nicholas Goodrum, 35, of Bennington, was arrested after a search of his backpack revealed approximately 174 grams of cocaine.
The seizure occurred on Sept. 13, as part of an ongoing drug investigation.
Authorities obtained a search warrant for Goodrum’s backpack on Sept. 17, leading to the discovery of the drugs by detectives.
At the time of the investigation, Goodrum was on probation for prior offenses, which included heroin trafficking and a conspiracy to sell cocaine.
Following his arrest, Goodrum was processed at the Vermont State Police barracks in Shaftsbury and then incarcerated at the Southern State Correctional Facility in Springfield due to a probation violation.
He is scheduled for arraignment on the trafficking charge on Sept. 19 in the Criminal Division of Vermont Superior Court in Bennington.
The Bennington County State’s Attorney’s Office is prosecuting the case.
