WESTBROOK — A traffic collision on Main Street near Cumberland Street yesterday afternoon led to the arrest of a man on drug trafficking charges, authorities said.
Westbrook Police and Fire Departments were called to the scene at about 12:24 p.m. after a report of a motor vehicle crash.
Upon arrival, they discovered two vehicles involved, with one flipped onto its side.
There were no injuries reported, and despite the severe traffic disruption, officers managed to quickly reopen the roadway.
The investigation revealed that the driver of the overturned car, who was also on probation, had been both distracted and speeding at the time of the accident.
Further probing by the officers uncovered approximately 44 grams of cocaine inside the vehicle.
Brandon Steele, 31, of Westbrook, was arrested and charged with aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs and unlawful possession of scheduled drugs.
Additionally, a probation hold was placed on Steele following the incident.
