Somerville police investigate string of break-ins, assaults, and thefts

SOMERVILLE — A series of property crimes and assaults have kept Somerville Police officers busy, responding to multiple incidents across the city.

The department reported two instances of residential breaking and entering.

The first occurred over the weekend, with a report filed on Sept. 11 at around 7:10 p.m. A homeowner on Indiana Ave reported that her car keys were stolen from her home.

The second incident was reported on Sept. 10 at approximately 9:30 a.m. at an apartment complex on Canal Ln.

The victim stated that two females were seen inside her apartment via surveillance footage, though no items were reported missing.

Another breaking and entering case was registered on Sept. 11 at about 12:41 p.m. on Chetwynd Rd, where a resident reported a stolen bicycle from his basement.

Somerville Police also handled several assault cases.

On Sept. 14, around 11:21 p.m., officers were called to a CVS in Davis Sq where an employee was threatened with a knife by a man previously identified as a frequent shoplifter.

Earlier that day, at approximately 12:08 p.m., police responded to an assault on Washington St, where a woman reported being spat on by an assailant after a verbal altercation.

On Sept. 13, two assaults were reported.

The first occurred at around 11:26 a.m. on Tower St, involving a juvenile victim and two known juvenile assailants.

The second took place at about 10:11 a.m. on Governor Winthrop Rd, where a realtor was physically accosted by a male during a property showing.

That evening, at approximately 9:24 p.m., police were called to Cedar St following reports of juveniles throwing objects and attacking a man, resulting in a nose injury.

Another incident involving a weapon was reported on Sept. 14 at around 3:40 p.m. at the intersection of Chetwynd Rd & Curtis St. A traffic altercation escalated when one party brandished a firearm.

Police located the suspect, though no firearm was found.

In addition to these incidents, Somerville Police reported two package thefts, two car break-ins, two bicycle thefts, and two motor vehicle thefts.

The investigations into all reported crimes are ongoing, with suspects identified in several of the assault cases.
