Lyndon man arrested after river pursuit

LYNDONVILLE — A routine traffic stop turned into a foot chase and river pursuit on Sept. 17, leading to the arrest of a Lyndon man on multiple charges, including two outstanding warrants.

The Lyndonville Police Department reported that at 3:01 p.m., an officer attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation on East Burke Road.

The driver, identified as 46-year-old Jonathan Rutledge, turned onto Slate Lane and stopped outside residence #128.

Rutledge then fled on foot, leading the officer through woods and into the Passumpsic River.

Following the chase, Rutledge was taken into custody and charged with attempting to elude, driving after criminal suspension related to a prior DUI, violation of conditions of release, and was arrested on two warrants—one for cocaine possession from Caledonia Superior Court and another for driving after criminal suspension from Windsor County Superior Court.

Rutledge has been cited to appear at the Caledonia Superior Court on Nov. 18 at 8:30 a.m. He is currently being held at the Northeast Regional Correctional Facility with bail set at $200 cash or surety.
