LEBANON — In a tense encounter on Wednesday, police in Lebanon responded to a call about a disoriented woman who fled into a stagnant water body and later assaulted officers trying to rescue her.

At approximately 10:18 a.m., Lebanon Police Department officers arrived at Elm St. West in West Lebanon after receiving reports of 27-year-old McKayla Cady, who appeared to be under the influence and was soliciting rides from passersby.

Upon the officers’ arrival, Cady, a West Lebanon resident, ran down an embankment toward the nearby railroad tracks on South Main St. and entered the water.

Despite efforts by both police and fire department personnel to negotiate and aid her using safety lines and floating devices, Cady remained uncooperative.

When officers entered the water to bring her to safety, she assaulted several of them and tried to swim away.

Cady was eventually taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

She faces four counts of assault on a law enforcement officer and one count of resisting arrest, all classified as Class A misdemeanors.

During the altercation, four officers sustained minor injuries, with one requiring hospital treatment.

Cady did not sustain any injuries in the incident.
