Large fire extinguished at Rochester park encampment

ROCHESTER — On Monday, Sept. 16, at approximately 6:45 p.m., Rochester Police and Fire Departments responded to a report of an explosion and subsequent fire at Hanson Pines Park, located behind Dominicus Court and near the high school.

Upon arrival, emergency personnel discovered a large fire at what seemed to be a makeshift encampment in a wooded area of the park.

No individuals were found at the site of the encampment, and thankfully, there were no injuries reported in the incident.

Rochester Fire Department successfully managed to extinguish the blaze.

The cause of the explosion and fire is currently under investigation, and further details have yet to be provided by the authorities.

In light of the incident, Rochester Police took the opportunity to issue a reminder to the public regarding the city’s camping regulations.

It is illegal for any person to camp or to park a vehicle or recreational vehicle occupied by one or more persons, either overnight or for any two-hour period between dusk and dawn, on any city-owned land within Rochester.
