BOSTON — Officers from the Boston Police Department’s East Boston District A-7 arrested a local man on larceny and various motor vehicle charges late Monday afternoon.

At about 5:30 p.m., on Monday, officers were conducting a “walk and talk” patrol near 216 Border Street when they were flagged down regarding a theft at a nearby restaurant.

According to the police report, an Uber Eats delivery driver had allegedly stolen a cell phone from the eatery located at 145 Meridian Street while picking up an order.

Authorities identified the suspect as 27-year-old Antonio El Urdaneca of East Boston.

Video surveillance footage and a description of his moped allowed officers to quickly locate El Urdaneca near 227 Border Street.

Upon stopping El Urdaneca, officers found that the moped he was operating was unregistered and that he was driving without a valid license.

Further investigation revealed the moped had been reported as stolen.

Police also recovered the stolen cell phone and returned it to the rightful owner.

El Urdaneca has been charged with Larceny over $1,200, Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle, Operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle, and Receiving Stolen Property.

He is set to be arraigned at East Boston District Court.
