WESTBROOK — A Westbrook Police K9 named Tony and his handler, Officer Colby Clark, successfully tracked down a suspect who attempted to flee from police by hiding under a kiddie pool Saturday evening.
Police officers were initially called to a disturbance between a man and a woman on Bridgton Road around 5:20 p.m. The pair had fled the scene before officers arrived, but were located shortly after on Puritan Drive.
The female was arrested due to an outstanding warrant.
The male, who also had an arrest warrant, a revoked driver’s license, and was out on bail conditions, ran from the scene as officers attempted to take him into custody.
In response, Westbrook Police set up a perimeter and deployed K9 Tony to assist in the search.
Demonstrating his tracking skills, Tony led officers to a back deck in the neighborhood.
An officer following the dog’s lead spotted clothing protruding from beneath an overturned kiddie pool.
The suspect was warned that his hiding spot was insufficient and was advised to surrender.
He complied and crawled out from under the deck, where he was arrested without further incident.
The man now faces charges including Operating after Habitual Offender Revocation, Violation of Conditions of Release, Refusing to Submit to Arrest, and an Arrest Warrant.
The Westbrook Police Department commended Tony and the officers involved for their effective teamwork in apprehending the suspect.
