BOSTON — Boston police recovered three firearms and arrested two men after responding to a report of a loud party in Mattapan early Monday morning.

At about 4:35 a.m., officers assigned to District B-3 responded to 24 Rexford Road, where they had previously been called for disturbances.

The entrance was through the backyard, where officers found a padlocked bulkhead basement door that prevented partygoers from leaving.

After hearing smoke alarms and fearing for the attendees’ safety, officers forced entry into the home through another padlocked side door.

Inside, over fifty people were found along with a bar, multiple hookahs, and air conditioners running without proper ventilation.

Amidst the chaos, officers detected the smell of gas and noticed open flames from lit candles.

As the building was evacuated with the help of the Boston Fire Department, police noticed a man, later identified as Fitzgerald Custodio-Pimentel, 31, of Jamaica Plain, trying to avoid them.

Upon frisking, he was found carrying a large vape and three credit cards with different names.

Another man, Jorge Vargas-Jimenez, 35, of Mattapan, attempted to flee but was apprehended after resisting officers.

During a subsequent sweep of the basement, officers discovered three firearms: a Ruger LC9 with an altered serial number, a Polymer 80, and a Sig Sauer P238.

Custodio-Pimentel was charged with disorderly conduct, trespassing, resisting arrest, and interfering with a police officer.

Vargas-Jimenez faces additional charges including three counts of receiving stolen property.

Both men are set for arraignment in Dorchester District Court.
