NAUGATUCK — Naugatuck Police Department is investigating a series of false threats, known as “swatting,” targeting borough schools on Sept. 13.

The first incident occurred at 8:50 a.m. when authorities received a call claiming an armed individual was heading toward Naugatuck High School.

Officers swiftly responded to secure the location and determined the threat was not credible.

At approximately 11:15 a.m., City Hill Middle School received a similar hoax threat.

Shortly after, Western Elementary School was also targeted.

Police rapidly ensured the safety of students and staff at both schools and concluded these threats were unfounded.

Authorities have since increased their presence at all town schools to maintain safety.

The Naugatuck Police commended the prompt actions of school personnel and students in adhering to safety protocols.

The investigation to trace the origin of the hoax calls is active, with the FBI New Haven Division providing assistance.

The community is not considered at risk.
