Motorcycle crash in Colchester under investigation

1 min read

COLCHESTER — The Colchester Police Department is investigating a motorcycle crash that occurred on Vermont Route 2A near Birchwood Drive, where a motorcyclist lost control and was subsequently struck by an oncoming vehicle.

The incident took place as 53-year-old Scott Blaise of New Haven was riding a 2018 Harley Davidson motorcycle toward Essex and went down on the road.

The motorcycle, without Blaise, then collided with a 2020 Toyota truck driven by 64-year-old Steven Morris of Essex Junction.

Morris was not injured in the crash.

Blaise, whose motorcycle registration had expired and who had a suspended license for life due to prior convictions, was transported to UVM Medical Center by Colchester Rescue.

He is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The initial investigation suggests that speed might have been a contributing factor, with Blaise’s motorcycle crossing into the westbound lane before being struck by the truck.

The Colchester Fire Department provided assistance at the crash site.

Vermont Route 2A was closed for about four hours following the accident but has since been reopened.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
