MERIDEN — A woman reported a violent assault at the Meriden Train Station on the night of Sept. 11, leading to the arrest of a local man, according to the Connecticut State Police.
The Meriden Police Department received a report at about 9:20 p.m. from a female victim who walked into their lobby alleging an assault earlier that evening.
The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after emergency medical services personnel responded to the scene.
At the hospital, she recounted the attack, stating it occurred around 8:15 p.m. on the eastern side of the train station.
She described her assailant as a heavy-set male who grabbed her from behind, threw her to the ground, and began choking her, causing her to lose consciousness temporarily.
After reviewing the security footage from the train station, investigators identified video evidence supporting the victim’s account, including images of the accused fleeing the scene.
Curtis Demond Hemmingway, 37, was detained by Meriden Police around 12:39 a.m. after a search of the area.
He matched the description from the video, and was wearing the same pants and shoes seen in the footage.
Hemmingway, who was positively identified through his Connecticut Identification card, faces charges including criminal attempt to commit murder, first-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree strangulation, and second-degree breach of peace.
He was held on a $150,000 bond and is awaiting arraignment at Meriden Superior Court scheduled for Sept. 13.
The incident is considered isolated with no ongoing threat to the public, and the victim has been released from the hospital following treatment.
