Man violates protection order, leads police on chase, and ends his life in Holden

HOLDEN — A man violated a protection order and led law enforcement on a pursuit before taking his life on Sept. 12.

The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office reported the initial violation occurred in Eddington around 6:30 p.m., where the suspect arrived at the address where the victim had sought refuge.

The Sheriff’s Office sought the suspect for arrest following the violation.

Earlier in the evening, the man had evaded a Brewer Police Department traffic stop.

During the ensuing investigation, authorities learned the suspect had made life-threatening statements and was armed.

A Sheriff’s supervisor located the suspect at a Milford business around 10:50 p.m. The suspect fled, leading officers across several towns until the pursuit ended in Holden on Copeland Hill.

He attempted to take his life with a firearm while slowing his vehicle, which then crashed into a fence.

Law enforcement secured the scene and approached the vehicle once it was deemed safe.

Despite life-saving efforts by medical personnel, the man succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

The incident, which ended without further harm to the public or officers, is under investigation by the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office and Holden Police Department, with assistance from the Brewer, Veazie Police Departments, and Maine State Police.
