WILLIAMSBURG — A 34-year-old Springfield man was arrested Thursday night on drug charges following a traffic stop on Route 9, police said.
Sgt. Fisher of the Williamsburg Police Department was conducting speed enforcement just after 10 p.m. when he stopped a vehicle for speeding.
During the stop, officers observed several indicators of suspected drug activity.
Officer Towle of the Williamsburg Police assisted with the stop.
Additional support came from Sgt.
Beaulieu and K9 Gino of the Easthampton Police Department.
A search of the vehicle yielded more than five pounds of marijuana and an unspecified amount of cocaine, according to police.
The suspect was arrested and charged with possession to distribute a Class D drug (marijuana), possession of a Class B drug (cocaine), having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, and speeding.
The man was arraigned in Northampton District Court.
His name has not been released.
