Boston man arrested on firearm charges after traffic stop

BOSTON — A 19-year-old Dorchester man faces firearm charges after police recovered a loaded handgun during a traffic stop in Mattapan on Thursday.

At about 1:40 p.m., officers from the Boston Police Department’s District B-3 pulled over a vehicle for speeding near Erie Street and Merrill Street.

The driver, identified as Paulino Rosa, appeared visibly shaken when approached by officers, police said.

After further investigation, officers searched the vehicle and found a Smith & Wesson .38 Special revolver with one round in the chamber, according to police.

Rosa was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.

He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.

The incident occurred as part of routine patrols in the area.

Police did not release additional details about the circumstances leading to the search of the vehicle.
