WESTPORT — A serious motor vehicle accident claimed the life of an 18-year-old dirt bike rider and injured a dump truck driver on Old Hill Road, police said.
Maximilien Harper of Westport was pronounced dead at the scene after his southbound dirt bike collided with a northbound dump truck around a sharp corner just south of Partrick Road at about 3:19 p.m.
The dump truck driver, whose name has not been released, swerved to avoid the collision, veered off the road, struck several trees, and rolled onto its side, spilling its contents.
The driver was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Chief Foti Koskinas expressed the department’s condolences to Harper’s family and assured the community that a thorough investigation is underway.
The Westport Police Detective Bureau and Accident Investigation Team, with assistance from the Fairfield Police Accident Investigation Team, are handling the inquiry.
Old Hill Road has been closed between Partrick Road and Broadview Road as the investigation proceeds.
Authorities are advising residents to avoid the area and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
