Troopers arrest Pawlet man for DUI after fiery crash on US Rt 7

CLARENDON — A Pawlet man was arrested early Thursday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence after his vehicle struck a guardrail and caught fire on US Rt 7.

Vermont State Police responded to the crash near VT Rt 103 around 1:21 a.m. Troopers found the 2007 Kia Optima on fire and observed the driver, identified as 24-year-old Jerome Webster, attempting to flee the scene.

Webster was traveling southbound when he crashed into the guardrail, causing his vehicle to spin before coming to a stop.

During the investigation, troopers noted signs of impairment and arrested Webster for DUI.

He was also charged with duty to stop at the scene of a crash.

After processing at the Rutland Barracks, Webster was released with a citation to appear at the Rutland County Superior Court on a later date.

No injuries were reported in the incident.
