GREAT BARRINGTON — Police were called to a local Cumberland Farms on Thursday after a credit card skimmer was discovered on a payment machine.

The Great Barrington Police Department is currently investigating the incident after the fraudulent device was found at the register.

The skimmer, which can steal credit card information when customers swipe their cards, was promptly removed.

Authorities are examining surveillance footage and conducting interviews to determine how long the skimmer had been in place and how many customers might have been affected.

The police department urges the community to monitor their bank and credit card statements closely and report any unauthorized transactions immediately.

Customers who used their cards at the Cumberland Farms are advised to contact their banks and consider requesting new credit cards as a precaution.
