Newington police arrest two in armed robbery at local package store

NEWINGTON — Two men have been arrested in connection with an armed robbery at Country Package Store on Hartford Avenue last month, Newington Police Department announced Thursday.

Authorities said the suspects, identified as Devon Kempson-Cook, 37, and Stevelan Snowden, 42, both of Hartford, were taken into custody following an investigation into the August 29 incident.

Police responded to the scene around 8:49 p.m. after reports that two males had entered the store, with one brandishing a firearm at the clerk.

The perpetrators fled with cash and alcohol.

Kempson-Cook was arrested on September 9 and faces charges including Robbery 1st Degree, Conspiracy to Commit Robbery 1st Degree, Larceny 3rd Degree, Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 3rd Degree, and Criminal Use of a Weapon.

He is scheduled to appear in New Britain Superior Court on September 23.

Snowden, apprehended on September 11, has been charged with Robbery 1st Degree, Conspiracy to Commit Robbery 1st Degree, Larceny 3rd Degree, and Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 3rd Degree.

His court date is set for September 25 at New Britain Superior Court.

The Newington Police Detective Division led the investigation with assistance from the West Hartford Police Department, the Hartford Police Department Emergency Response Team, and the Hartford Police Department Violent Crimes Unit.
