MERIDEN — The Meriden Police Special Crimes Unit has arrested two individuals, Dorcas Otero and Quintin Jones, following an extensive investigation into allegations of sexual and physical abuse of children.
The investigation, which began in November last year, revealed that the victims, who were between the ages of four and nine at the time of the incidents, suffered abuse at the hands of Otero, born Dec. 31, 1992, and Jones, born July 25, 1995.
The Meriden Police Department acted on this information, leading to the issuance of two felony arrest warrants for each suspect.
Otero and Jones were apprehended on Sept. 5 and are facing multiple charges.
Otero has been charged with two counts of risk of injury to a child and two counts of cruelty to persons, under Connecticut General Statutes 53-21(a)(1) and 53-20, respectively.
Jones faces charges of first-degree sexual assault, three counts of risk of injury to a child, and two counts of cruelty to persons, under C.G.S. 53a-70, 53-21(a)(1), and 53-20.
Currently held on high court-set bonds, Otero’s bond is set at $300,000 while Jones’ is $500,000.
The Meriden Police Department has expressed a strong commitment to child protection and the thorough investigation of any allegations of crimes against children.
In a statement, the police department commended the victims for their bravery and cooperation, noting that their actions likely prevented further crimes against children.
The department also emphasized the importance of working with partner agencies to provide support services to the victims and their families.
